The basics

What Is a Balloon Garland?

A balloon garland is a long, flexible strand of clustered balloons that can follow almost any line in a room.

A balloon garland is a chain of balloon clusters built along a strip or line, so it bends. It can climb a doorway, swag across a mantel, run down a staircase rail, wrap a cake table or frame a backdrop. Shape a garland over a frame and it becomes a balloon arch; hang it in a circle and it becomes a hoop. That flexibility is why garlands are the most-booked piece of balloon decor for home parties.

Garlands are priced by the foot, which makes them easy to budget: measure the doorway, mantel or table, and you know roughly what you'll spend before you ask for a quote.

Organic vs. classic

Organic Balloon Garlands vs. Classic Garlands

Almost every garland booked today is organic. Here's what that means and when classic still makes sense.

What does organic balloon garland mean?

An organic balloon garland mixes balloon sizes (tiny 5-inch fillers, standard 11-inch, big 16- to 24-inch statement balloons) in irregular clusters so the line looks natural and full instead of patterned. It has texture and movement, and it photographs like a design piece rather than a party-store decoration.

What is the difference between an organic and a regular balloon garland?

A regular (classic) garland repeats the same cluster of same-size balloons in a uniform pattern, like a tight rope or a spiral. It's neat, symmetrical and uses fewer balloons. An organic garland is looser, fuller and uses more balloons per foot. Choose classic for school colors, team colors and tidy corporate looks; choose organic for showers, weddings, birthdays and anything meant for photos.

Balloon garland clusters and accents

Garland clusters are the small groups of three or four balloons that make up the strand. Accents tucked into the clusters change the whole look: chrome and pearl balloons, double-stuffed balloons in custom shades, foil stars, hearts and letters, and confetti-filled balloons.

Placement

Where Balloon Garlands Work Best

If you can hang something from it or lay something along it, a garland can go there.

Doorways and front doors

A garland over or around the front door, a patio door or a venue entrance welcomes guests and marks the party.

Fireplace mantels

A mantel garland is the easiest way to decorate a living-room party for birthdays, holidays and showers.

Staircases and railings

A staircase balloon garland running down the banister makes a grand entrance for sweet 16s, quinceañeras and engagement parties.

Cake, dessert and gift tables

A balloon garland for the table, either draped across the front edge or used as a table runner, frames the cake for photos.

Backdrops and shimmer walls

Garland and backdrop together, with the garland swooping over a panel, shimmer wall or flower wall, is the most popular photo spot we build.

Walls, fences and easels

Garlands hang on walls, backyard fences and even easels around a welcome sign or a graduate's photo.

Marquee letters and numbers

A garland wrapped around light-up marquee letters or numbers spells out a name, an age or a class year.

Storefronts and offices

A garland across a storefront window or a reception desk for openings, sales events and employee appreciation days.

Sizing

Balloon Garland Sizes: How Long Should Yours Be?

Measure the space, then add a little. Garlands look best when they swoop past the edges instead of stopping short.

Balloon garland lengths and balloon counts
LengthFitsBalloons (organic, approx.)
5–6 ftCake table, small mantel, a single wall accent60–110
8 ftStandard 6 ft table with drape, a mantel with overhang100–145
10 ftFront door or single doorway, a 7 ft backdrop120–180
12–15 ftDouble doors, a garland-and-backdrop combo, a long buffet150–270
20 ft and upStaircases, long walls, stages, a full arch240–360+

Counts are approximate: organic garlands use about 12–18 balloons per foot. Fuller designs and larger balloons change the count.

How many balloons for a 20 ft garland? About 240–360 in an organic style. A classic garland of 11-inch balloons uses closer to 100–130 for the same length.

Styles

Garland Styles: Flowers, Greenery, Pearl and Mini Garlands

The garland is the base. These finishes make it yours.

Balloon garlands with flowers and greenery

Silk or fresh flowers, eucalyptus, ferns, pampas grass and greenery tucked into the clusters turn a balloon garland into something closer to a floral installation. It's the favorite for bridal showers, baptisms, garden parties and Mother's Day.

Pearl, chrome and metallic garlands

Pearl balloons have a soft sheen; chrome balloons are mirror-bright gold, silver, rose gold and champagne. A few in every cluster make a garland look expensive. All-chrome garlands are a New Year's Eve and 50th-anniversary favorite.

Mini and small balloon garlands

A mini balloon garland uses mostly 5-inch balloons for a delicate strand that suits a cake table, a cake topper, a highchair for a first birthday or a mirror in an apartment party.

Hanging and ceiling garlands

Garlands can also hang overhead: swagged across a ceiling, over a dance floor or around a canopy. Those count as custom balloon installations because they're rigged to the venue.

Pricing

How Much Does a Balloon Garland Cost in Houston?

Our garlands are priced by the foot. Here's where pricing starts and what moves it.

Balloon garland pricing
GarlandStarting at
Accent garland (lighter, fewer large balloons)$18 per foot
Standard organic garland$25 per foot
Deluxe garland (fuller, chrome, foil and florals)$35 per foot
Grab-and-go garland, 5 ft (pickup, you hang it)$85
Grab-and-go garland, 8 ft$120

Installed garlands have a 6 ft minimum and include delivery and hanging in our core Houston service area.

What changes the price: length, how full the garland is, the share of large, chrome or double-stuffed balloons, flowers and foil accents, whether we install it or you pick it up, and the drive. A 10 ft standard organic garland installed at your home starts around $250, and your quote is written for your event.

Your options

Grab-and-Go Garlands vs. Installed Garlands

Both are good. It depends on how long the garland is and how much you want to do yourself.

Grab-and-go vs. installed balloon garlands
Grab-and-goInstalled

Best length5–8 ftAny length, including 20 ft and up
HangingHooks or ribbon you supplyWe bring frames, weights and hardware
Good forTables, small walls, last-minute partiesDoorways, staircases, backdrops, venues

What is a grab-and-go balloon garland? A pre-built garland, usually 5 to 8 feet, sold ready to pick up and hang yourself. It's the budget-friendly option for small spaces. Garlands longer than about 8 feet don't travel well in a car, so those are installed.

Timing

How Long Do Balloon Garlands Last, and How Early Can They Be Made?

Air-filled garlands last for days indoors. That makes timing easy for most parties.

How long do balloon garlands last? An air-filled organic garland in an air-conditioned room lasts several days and often a week or more before it starts to soften. Outdoors in Houston shade it lasts about a day. In direct summer sun, expect a few hours before balloons oxidize, fade and pop.

How early can a balloon garland be made? For indoor parties, a garland can be built a day or two ahead with no visible change. Most clients have it installed the morning of or the night before. For outdoor parties in summer, it should go up the same day, as close to start time as practical.

Questions

Balloon Garlands in Houston: FAQ

What is a balloon garland?

A balloon garland is a long, flexible strand of clustered balloons that can be hung over doorways, along mantels and staircases, across tables or around backdrops. Shaped over a frame, a garland becomes a balloon arch.

How much do people charge for balloon garlands?

Balloon garlands are priced by the foot. Our installed garlands start at $18 per foot for an accent garland and $25 per foot for a standard organic garland, with a 6 ft minimum. Grab-and-go garlands start at $85.

How long do balloon garlands last?

Several days indoors when air-filled, often a week or more in air conditioning. About a day outdoors in shade, and a few hours in direct Houston summer sun.

How many balloons are in a 20 ft garland?

About 240–360 balloons for an organic garland, using 12–18 balloons per foot. A classic garland of 11-inch balloons uses about 100–130 for the same length.

What is the difference between an organic and a regular balloon garland?

An organic garland mixes balloon sizes in loose, natural clusters and looks full and textured. A regular garland repeats same-size clusters in a tight, uniform pattern and uses fewer balloons.

How early in advance can a balloon garland be made?

For indoor events, one to two days ahead with no visible change. Outdoor summer garlands should be installed the same day.

What's the difference between a balloon arch and a balloon garland?

A garland is the strand of balloons; an arch is a garland (or classic balloon clusters) built over a frame so it stands and curves on its own. Garlands can also hang flat on walls, mantels and tables.

Can you hang a balloon garland without damaging the wall?

Yes. We use freestanding frames, tension rods, removable hooks or existing fixtures rather than tape that pulls paint. Hotel and venue walls usually have no-tape rules, so frames are standard there.

Are balloon garlands still in style?

Yes. Organic garlands with mixed sizes, florals and chrome accents are the current look for showers, weddings, birthdays and holidays. The change over the last few years is toward softer palettes and more texture.

What can I use instead of a balloon garland?

Fabric draping, paper flower walls, greenery garlands or a shimmer wall. Many hosts combine a shimmer or flower wall with a short balloon garland for the best of both.
